Designated parking spaces for drivers with young kids in strollers may be coming to Rhode Island

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Senate approved a bill Tuesday that would require certain parking lots to designate spaces for drivers with young children in strollers.
The legislation, sponsored by Sen. Jonathan Acosta, would require parking lots with more than 100 spaces to designate parking spots for those who have children under the age of three in baby strollers.
According to the legislation, if a parking lot has between 101 and 500 parking spaces, two designated spots would be required for stroller parking, and an additional spot for each 500 parking spaces.
The legislation excludes lots for single-family, duplex, townhouse or multifamily residences or industrial zoned properties.
The spaces would be located as close as possible to the handicap designated spaces. All parking spaces will be outlined green and have an above-ground sign with an image of a baby stroller and “Reserved Parking” written on it.
The bill now heads to the House for consideration where Rep. Joshua Giraldo has introduced the legislation.
