‘Die-in’ protest for ceasefire in Palestine held at Sen. Jack Reed’s office

CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE) — A “die-in” protest was held at Senator Jack Reed’s office in Cranston Wednesday afternoon by protestors asking for a ceasefire in the Middle East.
The group that held the protest, Rhode Island for Palestine, held the “die-in” protest inside Reed’s office, calling for him to end aid to Israel and demand a ceasefire in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas.
Reed is the chairman of the Senate Armed Services Appropriation Committee and was part of hearings in the recent discussions on how the United States government should send aid to Israel.
Protestors asked Reed to reject the proposal of more than $14 billion in aid, and instead, support legislation that sends humanitarian aid to the people of Palestine.
Sen. Reed’s office shared a statement on the protest with ABC 6 which reads in part, “Senator Reed respects the right to peaceful protest. Defending Israel is essential and so is aiding civilians in Gaza. Senator Reed has raised these issues directly with Secretary Blinken. He condemns Hamas’s terrorist attacks and their betrayal of the Palestinian people.”
