Dighton board of selectmen poised to name new permanent town police chief

DIGHTON, Mass. (WLNE) — The Dighton Board of Selectmen are prepared to make acting Dighton police chief George Nichols the official chief of Dighton police.

This comes after the board was met with angered Dighton residents who saw Nichols fit for the role.

The lone finalist for the chief of Dighton police, Timothy Souza, removed his candidacy following the outpouring support for acting chief Nichols on February 28th’s board of selectmen meeting.

The board announced the next day of the plan to make Nichols the permanent chief.
