AUBURN, Mass. (WLNE) — Auburn police said Wednesday that they arrested a Dighton man who is accused of assaulting a gas station clerk and her mother.

Police said that 30-year-old Kyle Fitta was charged with unarmed robbery, assault and battery resulting in serious bodily injury, three counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and two counts of malicious destruction of property.

Fitta went into a gas station on Route 12 in Auburn on July 31 at about 7 a.m. Investigators found that Fitta was trying to buy some items, but his credit card wasn’t going through.

When his card didn’t work, he allegedly started punching the 19-year-old clerk in the face. The clerk’s mother was the manager of the store and tried to stop Fitta, at which point he allegedly started attacking her.

Police said that he punched and kick both the women and also threw them against displays in the store.

Officials added that the daughter suffered a broken nose, a black eye, and a cut above her left eye that needed stitches. Her mother had a black eye, cuts and bruises, as well as a back injury.

A witness told investigators that he saw the incident happening, went inside, and then screamed at Fitta to stop and leave the store. Fitta allegedly stole the mother’s cell phone and keys and took off towards the Mass Pike.

While driving on the Mass Pike, police said Fitta caused a crash, assaulted another driver, and then resisted arrest.
