Dighton man reunites with police officers who saved his life
DIGHTON, Mass. (WLNE) — Two Dighton police officers who acted fast to save a man’s life in March were reunited with him at an event in the town.
On Wednesday, Officers Kenneth Almeida and Aaron Swartz were presented with the letters of commendation for their responses to an emergency incident.
Officers Almeida and Swartz and the Dighton Fire Department responded to the area of 890 Oak Street on March 9 for reports of a man injured while cutting down a tree.
Officer Almeida arrived on the scene first where he saw a man, Manuel “Manny” Teixeira, 67, suffering from head and leg injuries.
He was followed by Officer Swartz, and the two officers administered life-saving treatment to Teixeira, including the use of multiple tourniquets.
Paramedics soon arrived and transported Teixeira to Rhode Island Hospital where his leg was later amputated.
“On behalf of the Dighton Police Department, I would like to recognize Officers Kenneth Almeida and Aaron Swartz for their unwavering dedication to serving the residents of the Town of Dighton,” Dighton Police Chief George Nichols said.
