DIGHTON, Mass. (WLNE) — Two Dighton police officers were honored Wednesday for saving a man’s life back in March.

The Dighton Police Department announced that Kenneth Almeida and Aaron Swartz received letters of commendation from the Dighton Board of Selectmen for helping a man pinned by a fallen tree.

Officers responded to a house on Oak Street on March 9 for a report of a man who was injured while cutting down a tree.

The department said Almeida and Swartz were first to arrive on-scene and worked to provide life-saving medical aid.

The two officers administered multiple tourniquets until paramedics arrived and took the man to Rhode Island Hospital, where his leg was amputated.

“I would like to recognize Officers Kenneth Almeida and Aaron Swartz for their unwavering dedication to serving the residents of the Town of Dighton,” Chief George Nichols said in a statement.

“These officers relied on the training they have acquired throughout their years of service and their quick action helped to save this man’s life,” he added.
