Digital forensics examiner to retake witness stand in Read retrial

DEDHAM, Mass. (WLNE) — A digital forensics examiner returns to the stand Tuesday morning in the murder retrial of Karen Read.

Shanon Burgess first took the stand on Monday.

He’s the prosecution’s new witness, whom Judge Beverly Cannone ruled could testify.

Burgess addressed the discrepancy between time data from Read’s SUV and Boston police officer John O’Keefe’s cellphone.

He said he was able to determine Read’s SUV backed up at almost the exact same moment that O’Keefe last used his cell phone.

That would support the prosecution’s theory that Read hit O’Keefe, knocked him to the ground, then took off.

Under cross examination, Read’s defense asked Burgess about discrepancies on his resume about his bachelor’s degree.

The defense plans to call its own expert to contradict burgess.
