50 Stars Shine to Celebrate 50 Years of Women at Providence College

50 Stars For 50 Years

Providence, RI (WLNE) – In honor of the 50th year of women attending Providence College, Saturday’s WaterFire featured 50 blue stars over the river near Washington Place.

A sign displayed by Providence College next to the stars read, “In 1971, the first “coeds” (as women students were then called) moved into Aquinas Hall.”

PC’s website says the college is celebrating “Then, Now, Next: 50 Years of Women at Providence College” in honor of the accomplishments of its women students, alumni, faculty and staff. More events are planned in the coming weeks and months.

According to the college website, the school had 287 women students in 1971. That number has grown to 2,662 in 2021.
