NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — The Bristol County District Attorney’s office said it is investigating a homicide that took place early Saturday morning.

Police responded to the Morna Lounge and Grill located on Acushnet Avenue around 1:30 a.m. for reports of a shooting.

When they arrived police found three gunshot victims, two females and one male, who were transported to St. Luke’s Hospital.

The two female victims were treated for their injuries, while the male, identified as 27-year-old Cristiano Macedo, was pronounced dead.

New Bedford Mayor Jon Mitchell released a statement on the shooting:

There’s no place in our city for brazen acts of violence like this morning’s shooting. New Bedford Police is working diligently with the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office to apprehend the perpetrator and bring him to justice. Chief [Paul] Oliveira and I will urge the city’s licensing board to hold accountable any establishment where there has been a pattern of police incidents, including the bar where this morning’s incident took place.

The investigation was described as “extremely active.”
