Doctor, husband assaulted by man with metal pipe near Thayer St.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – A doctor and her husband were reportedly assaulted while walking near Thayer St. Sunday morning, Providence Police confirm.

The couple was reportedly walking on Meeting St. toward Thayer St. when the husband was struck in the back of the head and punched several times by an assailant. The assailant then grabbed a large metal pipe on the ground and swung it toward them.

Police confirm the couple said they ran away and the assailant got into a car and chased after them. The driver jumped a curb, and the couple ran into a courtyard at Brown University. The man got out of the car and ran after the couple.

The couple told police the man attacked the wife, and the husband found the assailant again. The assailant finally ran off.

The suspect, Kelvin Colon of Pawtucket, was later arrested.
