Donations sought for residents displaced by Warren fire

WARREN, R.I. (WLNE) — A multi-family building caught fire around 2 a.m. in Warren Friday displacing, 10 residents of the building.

“It started on the first floor and then it went to the second floor and then it was the roof,” neighbor Kiara Costa said. ‘That is when it got really scary.”

Fire crews responded to the Arlington Avenue building with a heavy presence blocking off the street for about an hour while the blaze was contained.

Three children and seven adults were displaced by the fire, with heavy damage to the building’s six apartments.

“It seemed like they could not put it out,” Costa added.

Neighbors described how scary it was to see the building across the street burning and that they had to be evacuated.

“It got really bad, very quickly and next thing you know the alarms are going off on the firetrucks and we were getting evacuated into an ambulance,” Costa said. “My kids were freaking out. It was scary.”

The residents lost all of their belongings and did not have renters insurance.

The Warren Fire Department is asking for clothing or gift card donations to help the families affected by the fire.
