Dorchester man held on $1M bail for shooting that injured 2 kids, 3 adults
BOSTON (WLNE) — A Dorchester man was held on $1M bail on Tuesday in connection to a Boston shooting that injured two children and three adults back in September.
According to District Attorney Kevin Hayden, 24-year-old Gianni Johnson was arrested Monday night on five counts of assault to murder, unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, unlawful possession of a large-capacity feeding device, unlawful possession of a machine gun and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building.
Our sister station in Boston, WCVB Channel 5 reports that on Sept. 17, at about 8:30 p.m., police responded to a call for a person shot at 50 Ames St. and found five people shot.
One of the juveniles suffered life-threatening injuries and remains in critical condition, police told WCVB.
DA Hayden, who met with family members of the victim at Monday’s arraignment, shared his gratitude for the first responders and good samaritans who gave information to police.
“The brutality of sending bullets flying where people were gathered and children were playing should shock and outrage all of us and should unite us –we need to recognize and treat gun violence as a societal epidemic,” Hayden said.
Johnson is set to reappear in court at a later date.
