Downed power line in Warwick disrupts morning commute

WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) — A busy road in Warwick was closed due to a downed power line as heavy wind and rain continued into Monday morning.

Warwick police told ABC 6 News on scene that the storm knocked down a power line on Quaker Road.

Drivers were turned away as police and fire crews worked to fix the issue. The public was advised to take a different route for their morning commute.

ABC 6 saw cars slowing down to keep control amid the heavy rain and minor flooding.

Southern New England was hit with power outages overnight, impacting about 5,000 customers in Rhode Island and 8,000 in Massachusetts as of 4 a.m.

Those numbers improved later into the morning. At 8 a.m., Rhode Island was down to 889 customers, and Massachusetts was down to 4,199.
