PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Dozens of Providence teachers were informed their contracts would not be renewed for the coming school year.

According to a letter from Providence School District superintendent Javier Montanez, 56 educators received notice they would not be renewed for the 2024-25 school year.

The district, citing reduced pandemic funding, declining enrollment, and rising costs to meet the needs of specialized students in the change, saying the change in funding means they need to make difficult decisions moving forward.
