Driver charged after crashing into Warwick home

WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) – 42-year-old Alexander Gutierrez of Warwick was charged with DUI following a Wednesday morning crash on Elmwood Avenue.

Warwick Police received reports of a vehicle that had crashing into a house on the 1900 block of Elmwood Avenue around 6:20am. Gutierrez was driving a van southbound on Elmwood Avenue when the vehicle left the roadway, striking a curb and two separate sections of fencing, an unoccupied car and then crashing into the chimney of a house.

No one inside the house was injured during the crash.

Alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor, however officials are still investigating the crash.

Gutierrez is also charged with reckless driving and resisting lawful arrest. He remains hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries from the crash.
