Man charged with DUI after rear-ending state police cruiser on Interstate 95

WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) — Part of Interstate 95 was shut down after a Rhode Island State Police cruiser was hit early Tuesday morning.

State police said they were responding to a crash just after 1 a.m. when another car rear-ended a cruiser.

The highway was shut down after exit 14 for over an hour. All traffic was diverted to the Route 37 exit.

Police identified the driver of that car as 36-year-old Christopher Warner.

Warner was arraigned on charges including driving under the influence and driving to endanger resulting in physical injury.

Warner’s bail was set at $20,000 surety, and he is due back in court on August 29.

The trooper was taken to Rhode Island Hospital to be treated for minor injuries.
