Driver dies in fiery Warwick single-car crash into traffic pole
WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) — One person has died after a single-car crash into a traffic signal pole in Warwick Monday morning, according to the Warwick Police Department.
The incident occurred just before 1 a.m. at the intersection of Post Road and Airport Road where first responders found the vehicle on fire and fully engulfed.
One occupant was found deceased in the driver’s seat by Warwick fire personnel.
The initial investigation determined that the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed westbound on Airport Road.
This was according to a witness to the incident.
The car then drove across the Post Road intersection and collided with the pole.
The victim’s name is being withheld pending a next of kin notification and the investigation is ongoing.
The intersection’s traffic signals are expected to be out of service for most of the day due to extensive fire damage.
