PROVIDENCE, R.I. – A statewide drought advisory has issued Wednesday by Rhode Island Gov. Gina Raimondo to encourage water conservation and raise awareness of dry conditions across the state.
The advisory is based on advice from the state’s Drought Steering Committee and is the lowest of four drought designations.
The committee falls under the Rhode Island Water Resources Board, where they are recommending refraining from watering the lawn between 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the hottest part of the day, and warning against overwatering.
The board is also suggesting checking the load size when washing laundry or dishes, sweeping driveways, rather than spraying them with a hose, and using pool covers to reduce evaporation when the pool isn’t in use, sidewalks and steps rather
Some water suppliers and communities have issued water restrictions.
