Dry today, showers/storms move in tomorrow

Clearing out in time for the holiday weekend!

Yesterday saw a few isolated showers move through Southern New England, but still not enough to make a dent in the dry August we’ve had. In Providence, we’re over an inch below average for August rainfall and close to two inches below average for rainfall since June 1st. All of RI except Providence County is currently in an “abnormally dry” status, as is Bristol County, MA. We have some more beneficial rain on the way tomorrow, with half an inch or more of rain possible in some spots.

This afternoon is dry and mild, with temperatures in the low-to-mid 70s. It will be cooler the closer you get to the coast, with a southerly wind ushering in a seabreeze later on this afternoon. We’ll have a mix of clouds and sunshine, with clouds increasing overnight tonight ahead of our next disturbance arriving tomorrow.

Tomorrow starts with a few scattered showers, although they will be hit-or-miss in the morning. It’s later in the afternoon and evening hours when a cold front moves through with some heavier rain and storms. Thunder and even some gusty winds are not out of the question with these, but nothing severe. We clear out heading into the weekend and the forecast is looking great Saturday through Labor Day! Lots of sunshine and temperatures in the 70s.

Have a great Thursday!
