Dunkin’ Donuts Center sign comes down in midst of naming rights talks

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) –The Dunkin’ Donuts Center sign has came down outside the arena on Wednesday.
ABC 6 News Crew was at La Salle Square where workers took down the large sign that’s been up for decades.
The downtown arena has been called the Dunkin’ Donuts Center for the past 21 years and it’s culturally known as “The Dunk.” An agreement was reached in 2001, and renewed in 2011.
It was announced in August that the Lincoln-based company Amica Insurance made a play of taking over the naming rights of the facility.
“We’re in active discussions with the Rhode Island Convention Center Authority about securing the naming rights to the Convention Center and Civic Center,” an Amica spokesman said in a statement.
He said nothing has been finalized, but that the company is excited about the potential opportunity.
Dunkin’s contract with the Convention Center Authority was set to expire in June.
