Early morning power outage at Rhode Island Hospital

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Brown University Health said a power outage at Rhode Island Hospital Saturday morning put the hospital on diversion.

A spokesperson said that an electrical feed from Rhode Island Energy to Rhode Island Hospital and Hasbro Children’s Hospital had a dip in power around 5:40 a.m.

Backup generators were activated to allow for “essential operations,” and the hospital said that it may take multiple hours to transition back to normal power.

The hospital was on diversion until around 11 a.m.
