East Bridgewater police identify Florida woman as driver that struck 11-year-old on bike

EAST BRIDGEWATER, Mass. (WLNE) — Police say the driver who struck and dragged an 11-year-old girl riding her bike in a school parking lot was found.

Officials say that the driver, a 62-year-old woman from Florida, will be summonsed by Brockton District court on charges of negligent operation of a motor vehicle and leaving the scene of an accident with personal injury. Officials say she has relatives who live in the area.

According to the East Bridgewater Police Department, on Sunday, October 15, at 5:32 p.m., they received a call reporting a crash involving a bicyclist and a car in the area of 143 Bedford Street.

When first responders arrived to the scene, they said they found the 11-year-old victim who was struck while riding her bike through a small path that leads from Route 18 to the rear parking lot of Central Elementary School.

The girl was evaluated on the scene and her mother declined transport to the hospital on behalf of her daughter.

Through an investigation, police learned that a blue, 2022 – 2024 Lexus NX entered the school’s parking lot from Central Street and attempted to use the lot as a cut-through to Bedford Street.

The Lexus then turned around and traveled back towards the Central Street entrance, when it struck the juvenile, pushing her approximately 60 feet. Police do not believe the car was traveling at a high rate of speed.

A woman exited the driver’s seat of the Lexus, wearing blue hospital-style scrubs and spoke to the victim before leaving the scene.

The crash remains under investigation and anyone with information regarding the crash or the suspect is asked to call East Bridgewater Police at 508-378-7223.
