EAST GREENWICH, R.I. (WLNE) — The East Greenwich School Committee officially announced that Thomas Kenworthy would be their new superintendent, concluding a four-month search.

The committee came to the decision during a special meeting held on Tuesday.

Kenworthy comes to East Greenwich after a stint as superintendent of Portsmouth Public Schools, where he had served since 2020.

According to East Greenwich Public Schools, Kenworthy is also a resident of the town, and has two children within the town’s public school system.

In a statement, a member of the town’s School Committee said that Kenworthy’s experience and leadership in Portsmouth, as well as his ties to East Greenwich, helped him stand out throughout the search process.

Kenworthy will officially take the position on August 12.
