East Greenwich plans Memorial Day Parade for May 27

EAST GREENWICH, R.I. (WLNE) — East Greenwich will hold its annual Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 27 starting at 10 a.m.

The parade starts at Academy Field and will go through the Hill and Harbor District by way of Mawney Street.

The route will continue to First Avenue for a wreath-laying ceremony at the World War II Memorial on Cliff Street.

The parade will continue on Main Street for closing ceremonies at Town Hall and will conclude at 11 a.m.

Colonel Joanne Breslin will serve as Grand Marshal.

Breslin is Commander of the Varnum Continentals Militia and Vice President for the Varnum House Museum.

Aaron Lindo, the Lone Piper, will lead the parade which will feature police and fire Honor Guards, elected officials, veteran dignitaries and the Kentish Guards and Varnum Continentals.

The parade will prompt a temporary parking ban on several streets around Academy Field.

There is no rain date for the parade, and a ceremony will be held inside the Swift Community Center in the event of inclement weather.
