East Greenwich Police Lieutenant found guilty of simple assault

An East Greenwich Police Lieutenant has been found guilty of simple assault.

Lt. Paul Nahrgang, 46, was charged with simple assault and disorderly conduct after he was caught on video grabbing a 44-year-old suspect around the neck in a holding cell.

On September 3 after a trial in District Court before Judge Cenerini Nahrgang was found guilty of simple assault and not guilty of the disorderly conduct.

Nahrgang received a one year filing and was ordered to attend anger management counseling.

Nahrgang is currently suspended from the department with pay.
