EAST GREENWICH, R.I. (WLNE) — Residents in East Greenwich voiced their frustrations with the town council and called for transparency during Monday night’s meeting.
Those residents packed the East Greenwich Community Center. Their biggest concern was the controversial hiring of the city’s Town Manager Gayle Corrigan.
Some say they feel the council hired Corrigan in secrecy. However, council members say the criticism is baseless.
“What happened was we had a need to put someone in that place who has experience turning things around,” said East Greenwich Council President, Sue Cienki.
The council also discussed the controversial “one town plan,” which was approved in the town’s budget.
It would merge school and municipal departments. It has been in the works for three years.
