East Greenwich tractor trailer rollover crash spills gravel on highway, five drivers treated for injuries

EAST GREENWICH, R.I. (WLNE) — Five people were transported to an area hospital after a tractor trailer crashed and rolled over on 95 North in East Greenwich Tuesday.

According to the Rhode Island State Police, the incident occurred at approximately 1:23 p.m. when two cars collided near exit 24.

Two trailing vehicles slowed to avoid the crash, and a tractor trailer, unable to brake in time, crashed into one of the slowed cars.

The tractor trailer then rolled over, spilling the gravel it was hauling onto the roadway.

The driver of the tractor trailer was cited for his vehicle being overweight.

The area of highway was shut down until 4:50 p.m. as authorities cleaned up the scene.
