East Providence crews respond to duplex fire

EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — An East Providence house fire is being investigated by the East Providence Fire Department.

The fire occurred at a duplex on Roger Williams Ave in East Providence Sunday afternoon.

It is unknown if any residents were in the building at the time of the fire.

The affected side of the house has been determined to be unlivable, according to East Providence Police Department Battalion Chief Joseph DaSilva.

The neighboring homes were not affected by the fire, and there is no word on displacement of residents, though the Red Cross will be coming to the scene.

One cat was rescued from the building and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
