East Providence Fire Chief to retire, mayor names acting chief

EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The East Providence Fire Department announced that their chief will retire on Saturday after a 37-year long career serving the city.
The city said Chief Glenn Quick was appointed to the position back in 2019 and will officially retire on Nov. 18.
Chief Quick started his career with the East Providence Fire Department in 1987 as a firefighter and was promoted to Lieutenant in 1995, Captain in 2002, Battalion Chief in 2006 and Chief of Department and Emergency Management Agency Director in 2019.
Battalion Chief Michael Carey has since been named Interim Acting Chief and has served with the department for 34 years.
“I am humbled by the outpouring of appreciation for my service,” Chief Glenn Quick said. “I am very lucky to have 37 healthy years in the fire service.”
“I am leaving the department in great hands and am confident that my successor will continue to build upon the traditions and great work which we have accomplished over the last four years,” Chief Quick concluded.
