East Providence man accused of assaulting mother

SCITUATE, R.I. (WLNE) — An East Providence man is accused of hitting his mother five times in the face while she was driving them back to their home.

Peter J. Roy, 33, allegedly committed the assault Sunday at approximately 9 p.m. near Hartford Pike.

The victim told police that she pulled over to the side of the road on Hartford Pike to let her son urinate after the assault, and she drove from the scene and called 911.

She stated that she thought Roy fled through the woods.

The suspect later called his mother from an unknown number to pick him up and officers responded to where he was last seen.

Officers encountered Roy, and determined him to be heavily intoxicated and irritated.

Roy was taken into custody and charged with assault on a person 60 years of age and domestic-disorderly conduct.
