East Providence man arrested after shooting at car in road rage altercation

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Police said Wednesday that an East Providence man is in custody after he allegedly shot at another car in a road rage incident on Route 95.

According to Rhode Island State Police, Nicholas Peguero, 30, was arrested and charged with felony assault, using a firearm when committing a crime of violence, possessing a gun without a permit, drive-by shooting and four counts of large capacity feeding devices prohibited after his arrest on Wednesday.

Officials said that on August 16, state police responded to a shooting on Route 95 north at the State Offices exit in Providence. The incident involved a suspect shooting a round into the victim’s car during a road-rage altercation.

Police said the suspect and victim did not know each other and the victim was uninjured.

Detectives said they were able to identify Peguero as the suspect and obtained 11 warrants for his arrest.

When police searched Peguero’s home, they said they found a 9mm handgun and four large-capacity magazines.

Peguero was later arraigned on Aug. 29, and given $45,000 bail and ordered to have no contact with the victim.

He is scheduled for a pre-arraignment conference on December 4.
