Police have arrested a man for allegedly sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl.
East Providence Police Department arrested 21-year-old Andrew DaSilva, Saturday for the charge of 1st Degree Child Molestation.
Police say a parent of the child reported that DaSilva might have assaulted the child after they met through social media sites.
During the investigation, police learned that the Burrillville Police Department was also looking for DaSilva on an unrelated incident, which involved DaSilva soliciting another 13-year-old for sex on social media. The child in this case was actually a Burrillville Police detective, posing as a 13-year-old.
The Burrillville police stated that DaSilva had been repeatedly attempting to meet up with the undercover cop, believing that he was speaking with a 13-year-old female.
DaSilva instructed the detective on how to get to East Providence and what bus she needed to take to meet him. They agreed to meet at the Burger King on Taunton Avenue. Officials conducted surveillance in the area.
Police moved in to arrest DaSilva and he fled the area. After a short search, he was apprehended in a yard near by.
The Burrillville Police Department will be pursuing a charge against DaSilva for indecent solicitation of a Child.
