East Providence man charged with stealing catalytic converters from 19 buses

BRIDGEWATER, MASS. (WLNE)- An East Providence man has been charged a year later after police say he stole catalytic converters from multiple buses at a Massachusetts transportation company.

Bridgewater Police say the thefts happened at A&A Metro Transportation on Bedford Street during the early morning hours of February 24.

Ryan Gobern, 45, is being charged with the following:

  • 21 counts of malicious damage to a motor vehicle
  • 19 counts of larceny over $1,200
  • Two counts of larceny under $1,200
  • Possession of a burglarious instrument

An officer investigating the incident noted that the catalytic converters from 19 buses and two other vehicles appeared to have been cut and removed with a Sawzall-type cutting tool.

Preliminary investigation showed that there were possibly two individuals involved.

Bridgewater Police detectives obtained a warrant from Brockton District Court for Gobern’s arrest.

Approximately one year later, Bridgewater Police Department was notified that Gobern had been arrested by the Rhode Island State Police on unrelated charges.

Gobern was transferred to custody of Bridgewater Police, and was arraigned in Brockton District Court on Monday.
