East Providence man convicted on multiple animal cruelty charges

65-year-old Phillip Price of East Providence has been convicted on three animal cruelty charges two months after a horse named Lily was found abandoned, splattered with paint ball markings at a Central Pennsylvania auction.

Lily was shot nearly 130 times with a paintball gun. One of her eyes had to be removed as a result. She was also malnourished and sickly.

Price’s charges are based on the neglect, abandonment and the transportation of the horse. No one has been charged yet for the paintball shooting.

The East Providence man has been ordered to pay more than $13,000 in restitution. He’s also barred from future business at that Pennsylvania auction.

Here in Rhode Island, Price had more than a dozen horses taken away from him last July after the animals were found living in squalor in a North Kingstown barn.

Price plead no contest in that case to 8 charges of animal cruelty.

As for Lily, she has been adopted by comedian Jon Stewart. The SPCA says she has regained some vision in her remaining eye and has gained almost 200 pounds since she was first found.
