EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – City officials and dozens of excited children attended a ribbon cutting for the opening of East Providence’s second splash pad on Monday.

“We couldn’t have timed this more perfectly with this heat wave coming,” East Providence Mayor Bob SaSilva says.

The splash pad was paid for by around $125k in funding from the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management’s Green Space Grant Program and the East Providence City Council.

“The city of East Providence works hard to unite our community and this splash pad is a great example of how the city, state and community joined together to offer a fun, safe way to bring joy and smiles to our youth,” Mayor Bob DaSilva said.

DaSilva adds he is thrilled about how safe this area is for kids and families. “You can come here, you don’t have to worry about drowning. Having facilities like this makes the whole park safer because you’re bringing adult families and more supervision.”

DaSilva says the city hopes to bring a splash pad to the Riverside community soon.

The new splash pad was supplied by ME O’Brien & Sons and Installed by Green Acres Landscaping.
