East Providence Police taking a break from their stint on Live PD

EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – The East Providence Police department has announced they’re ‘taking a break’ from their stint on the hit A&E show “Live PD”.

“It was a great experience and we hope everyone enjoyed a glimpse into their local police. LPD may be back, but no decisions have been made yet,” their Facebook post reads.

Live PD and the East Providence Police Department first partnered together back in May when the Warwick Police Department decided to take a break from the show. The first episode with East Providence police aired on May 31.

The reality show follows police departments throughout the country and rides along with officers as they respond to calls.

“They all relayed that they thoroughly enjoyed it, but I think just having someone ride with them, 2, 3 people at a time usually, 8 hours a day, it was time for a break,” said Major Christopher Francesconi, who said they haven’t yet ruled out a return to the show.

“It’s cool when you see locations that you know, people that you know. It shows you that the cops are doing their job, they’re on top of things,” said Wally Perry of East Providence.

Whether they stay or go, that was the police department’s goal, to show their city a glimpse inside the life of an officer.

“It really humanizes us, the officers, humanizes the badge. It’s not driving 100 miles an hour to emergency call to emergency call, oftentimes it’s those little interactions with the public that really go a long way,” said Maj. Francesconi.

Live PD is eying to come back to East Providence next summer, and the department said they’ll be discussing it over the next few months.
