East Providence to celebrate Arbor Day

EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The city of East Providence will host an Arbor Day ceremony today.

The celebration will start with a tree planting, and then an education session at 9:30 a.m. at Riverside Middle School.

The speaking program and ceremonial planting with Mayor Roberto DaSilva and Senator Jack Reed will start at 10:30 a.m.

East Providence has been awarded one of 385 nationwide grants from the Forest Service to increase equitable access to trees and nature, and the benefits they provide for cooling city streets, improving air quality and promoting food security, public health and safety. The grant was total of $750,000.
