EAST PUTNAM, Conn. (WLNE) — The East Putnam Fire Department said that firefighters extinguished fires in a car and tractor trailer on Interstate 395 early Wednesday morning.

Firefighters arrived at the area of a crash around 12:45 a.m. to find the vehicle fully involved and the tractor trailer suffering from a brake fire.

The fires were extinguished, and diesel fuel spilled on the road necessitated DEEP HAZMAT, a contract cleanup crew, and Department of Transportation sand trucks to be called for cleanup.

The drivers of both vehicles were evaluated on scene and refused transport to the hospital.
