PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – The state will formally take control of Providence’s troubled school system starting on November 1st.

The takeover comes following a report by Johns Hopkins that called the Providence school district one of the worst in the country.

The state is set to take complete control over every facet of the district including the budget personnel and will start creating a “turnaround plan” for city schools.

The state intervention will last at least five years.
