EEE detected in New Bedford mosquito sample

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — The City of New Bedford said a mosquito sample collected in the Business Park area of the city tested positive for Eastern Equine Encephalitis.

The sample was collected on Aug. 26 in a “primarily bird-biting mosquito.”

The city said the EEE risk in New Bedford is currently low, but higher nearby, including in Dartmouth, Westport, Marion, Mattapoisett, Rochester and Wareham.
