CRANSTON, R.I.(WLNE) – Another top officer is leaving Eleanor Slater Hospital and the Department of Behavioral Healthcare Developmental Disabilities and Hospitals.

BHDDH Director Richard Charest announced the departure of Dr. Elinore McCance-Katz as Chief Medical Officer in a message to employees Thursday.

“Her accomplishments were many, from the rebuilding of hospital services, reinstituting the admission process, and implementing policies and procedures aimed at improving patient care,” said Charest.

The reasoning for McCance-Katz departure was not unveiled and her last day will be July 22.

She assumed the role in September of 2021 and worked previously for the hospital from 2015-2017.

McCance-Katz then worked in the Trump Administration in a branch of the US Department of Health and Human Services before resigning the day after the Jan. 6 riots.

BHDDH said an interim CMO will be named shortly and a search for a permanent replacement will commence.
