Jorge Elorza will face off against former Providence Mayor Buddy Cianci, and Republican Dan Harrop in the General Election.
Elorza overcame his Democratic opponents City Council President Michael Solomon and Chris Young on Tuesday.
Solomon wasn’t always Elorza’s only opponent, initially it was a three way race between Elorza, Solomon, and Brett Smiley. Smiley dropped out last month as part of an effort to ensure that Buddy Cianci would not be elected Mayor of Providence. Smiley endorsed Elorza and asked his supporters to do the same in an effort to keep Cianci out of the Mayor’s office.
Before Smiley’s drop out, Independent Lorne Adrain also left the race in July and noted that he wanted to prevent Cianci from taking back the mayor’s office.
The group touted Elorza has the best chance to beat Cianci in the General Election.
