Emerald Square Mall closed temporarily due to water leak

NORTH ATTLEBORO, Mass. (WLNE) — The North Attleboro Fire Department said that the Emerald Square Mall was temporarily closed Sunday due to a water leak.

The department said a fire alarm was activated around 1:30 p.m. due to water leaking through a detector.

Firefighters identified several areas throughout the mall where water was leaking from the roof and affecting lighting fixtures as well as the men’s and women’s restrooms on the third floor.

The department said that power was isolated in several areas, and electrical, building, and health inspectors were notified.

The leak was believed to have been caused by snow and ice buildup on the roof.

The fire department, local inspectors, and mall management will conduct a walkthrough of the mall on Feb. 17 to assess the extent of the damages and determine if it is safe to reopen to the public.
