Emergency kit preparation for the potential weekend blizzard

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE)- The best way to stay ahead of any problems during a winter storm is to ensure you’ve prepared yourself for anything, here are some tips and resources.
In the event of a power outage, take advantage of the time you have power to charge up your phone, batteries and flashlights, and non-perishable foods. If you lose power, avoid opening and closing your refrigerator to help avoid temperature drops for as long as you can.
Though a travel ban is in effect, if you need to leave for any emergency, you want to ensure you have jumper cables, washer fluid, oil, and have filled your tank to above the 1/4 line before the storm begins to avoid it freezing.
A shovel is essential for any travel, as is a snowbrush and ice scraper. Cat litter can help your tires gain traction on snow and ice.
Stocking your car and home with blankets, gloves, flares, and a first aid kit will help in the event of a breakdown.
Make sure you have your insurance card on you during any travel for assistance.
