Emergency winter drop-in shelters available in Rhode Island

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Governor McKee shared information on emergency hubs and shelters for individuals experiencing homelessness during the polar vortex.

In response to the cold temperatures, emergency winter drop-in hubs are offered to anyone in need of a safe place to stay overnight.

Starting Jan. 6, the following hubs will be open:

  • Westerly: WARM Center, 56 Spruce Street
    • Open 24 hours during the winter months
  • West Warwick: West Warwick Civic Center, 100 Factory Street
    • Open 4:30 p.m. to 8 a.m. until Jan. 9

The following existing overnight shelters are also available:

  • Pawtucket: OpenDoors – 1139 Main Street
    • Open 24 hours until end of polar vortex
  • Providence: Crossroads Rhode Island – 162 Broad Street
    • Open until end of polar vortex
  • Providence: Emmanuel House – 239 Public Street
    • Open 24 hours from Jan. 7 through Jan. 8
  • South Kingstown: Welcome House of South County – 8 North Road, Peace Dale
    • Open 24 hours until end of polar vortex
