Epileptic Newport man to be tried for death of Navy officer

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) _ An epileptic man will go on trial for striking and killing a Navy police detective with his truck, despite multiple warnings from his doctor not to drive.

Authorities say Bradley, a civilian Navy employee, was driving a government pickup on Sept. 26, 2013, when he hit and killed Navy Police Detective Frank Lema. Lema was standing outside of a building at Navy Station Newport.
Prosecutors say Bradley, who suffers from epilepsy, continued to drive despite multiple warnings from his doctor.
They say Bradley was involved in a prior accident that was caused when he had a seizure.
