Fairhaven police arrest man for allegedly carrying unlicensed firearm

FAIRHAVEN, Mass. (WLNE) — The Fairhaven Police Department said it arrested a New Bedford man who was allegedly carrying a gun without a license on Friday.

55-year-old Carlos Brito was charged with carrying a firearm, receiving stolen property under $1,200, and possession of a large capacity feeding device, among several other charges.

Police were called to the area of Green Street and Cedar Street for a report of a suspicious person wearing rubber gloves and placing pantyhose over his head.

Police then allegedly found Brito, who matched the description, in a parked car with stolen license plates.

The department said a search of the car found a loaded 9mm handgun under the driver’s seat as well as zip ties, duct tape, latex gloves, plastic bags, and a pillow.

Brito was held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing.
