FALL RIVER, Mass. (WLNE) – The clerk at a Fall River gas station made it out unharmed after fighting off a knife-wielding robber early Wednesday morning.
Police responded to the Shell station located at 372 Plymouth Avenue in Fall River around 5:00 a.m. Wednesday for reports of an armed robbery.
Police said the suspect, a black male wearing a black jacket over a blue hooded sweatshirt, entered the store armed with a knife and demanded the clerk give him all of the money in the register.
The clerk, Kenny Smith, refused, using a nearby chair to fight off the suspect. The suspect fled the scene, taking several packs of cigarettes on his way out.
“He thought I was just going to open up the door and give him the money but he found out different,” said Smith. “Fortunately I didn’t get cut, and he only got five packs of cigarettes.”
Anyone with information on the incident or the suspect is asked to contact Detective Luis Vertentes at 508-676-8511, extension 260, or via the anonymous call the TIP LINE at 508-672-TIPS.
