Fall River man found guilty of 2006 assault

FALL RIVER, Mass. (WLNE) — A Fall River man on the run for 15 years due to charges surrounding an assault on a 17-year-old back in 2006 was found guilty on numerous charges yesterday.
37-year-old Jorge Lamas, previously of Fall River, was convicted to serve five to seven years in prison for mayhem, armed robbery and assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon.
According to a release, back in July of 2006, Lamas, who was 18 at the time, orchestrated an attack on a 17-year-old male victim.
The defendant was part of a group who lured the victim to a path in the area of the Rolling Green Apartments in Fall River, now known as the Southwinds Apartments.
According to prosecutors, one the victim was lured to this secluded location, he was attacked by some members of the group, including this defendant.
The victim was struck and slashed in the face by this defendant, and others, who used 4 to 5 beer bottles as weapons.
Once the victim was on the ground, he was then punched and kicked by this defendant and other members of the group.
The victim’s cell phone and sneakers were stolen during the incident.
Prosecutors said the defendant threatened the victim and told him not to contact the police.
The victim suffered significant injuries that included severe lacerations to his face that required over 40 stitches.
The victim did know the defendant and was able to identify him to police.
While the case was pending in 2008, the pendency of the case the defendant defaulted in May of 2008 and fled from Massachusetts.
15 years later, the defendant was apprehended in California in June of 2023 and was transported back to Massachusetts to face these charges.
