Fall River man gets jail time for breaking woman’s jaw at a bar

FALL RIVER, Mass. (WLNE) — A Fall River man convicted of breaking a woman’s jaw at a bar last year was sentenced to serve jail time, prosecutors said Thursday.

After a two-day trial, Kevin Alexander was convicted with assault and battery causing serious bodily injury.

He was sentenced to two-and-a-half years at the Bristol County Jail House with 18 months to serve. If he is charged with a new crime during that time, he could potentially be liable to serve the remaining one year of the jail sentence.

Police were called to Mickey Doyle’s Bar on Rhode Island Avenue on April 16, 2022. The victim told police that a man punched her in the mouth after she told him to leave her alone.

“This was an unprovoked outrageous assault against a woman who was just trying to enjoy an evening out,” said District Attorney Thomas Quinn. “I am pleased the jury held him accountable for this irrational act of violence.”

She said she didn’t know the man personally, but recognized him from being at that bar before. She was bleeding and having trouble speaking.

The victim was brought to St. Anne’s Hospital. She had to have major surgery to wire her jaw, which was broken in four different places.

Prosecutors said she has constant nerve pain in her face to this day.
